Geographical and Historical information from the year 1868.

"WIGHILL, a parish in the W. division of York Ainsty, West Riding county York, 2½ miles N.W. of Tadcaster, its post town. The village is situated near the river Wharfe. Above half the land is in meadow and pasture, and the remainder arable, except 40 acres of woodland. The manor anciently belonged to the Stapleton family. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of York, value £120. The church is dedicated to All Saints. There are two schools. The principal residence is Wighill Park."
