To the Memory Of Sir GEORGE CHOLMLEY Baronet Born November 26th 1782 Died December 23rd 1874 He was the second son of Sir WILLIAM STRICKLAND Baronet. In 1810 he was called to the Bar, and practised as a Barrister on the Northern Circuit. In 1831 he was elected Member of Parliament for the West Riding, which he continued to represent until 1841, when he was elected Member for Preston in Lancashire, which place he represented until 1857. In 1865 he assumed the arms and name of CHOLMLEY, in place of those of STRICKLAND, in accordance with the provisions of the will of NATHANIEL CHOLMLEY Esquire from whom he inherited the Cholmley Estates of Whitby, Howsham and North Elmsall.
