In 1822, the following places were in
the Parish of Bridlington:

"BRIDLINGTON QUAY, in the parish of Bridlington, wapentake of Dickering; 1 mile to the SE. of Bridlington. It is a pleasant and healthful sea bathing place, to which, for the last seventy years, there has been a considerable resort of genteel company in the summer season." (There is further information for Bridlington Quay).

"BUCKTON, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; 3 miles N. of Bridlington, Pop. 147."

"BUCKTON HALL, a farm house in the township of Buckton, and parish of Bridlington; 3½ miles N. of Bridlington."

"EASTON, 2 farm houses in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; 1 mile W. of Bridlington. Pop. 21."

"GRINDALE, in the parish of Bridlington, wapentake of Dickering, and liberty of St. Peter's; 3½ miles NW. of Bridlington, 4 miles NW. of Bridlington. Pop. 107."

"HILDERTHORPE, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; 1½ miles S. of Bridlington. Pop. 51."

"MARTON, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; (Marton-House, the seat of Ralph Creyke, Esq.) 2 miles NE. of Bridlington. One of the most remarkable remains of former ages, that is to be seen in this neighbourhood, is a ditch, or ravine, of immense width and depth, nearly at the base of the triangle, which forms the promontory of Flamborough Head. This ditch, which is called "Danes Dike," is apparently the effect of art, and contains two lines of defence, one above the other, with breast works. It extends above a mile and a quarter from the South shore, where its bottom is on a level with the beach, and becomes gradually shallower, till it entirely disappears. History affords no account of this stupendous work; but tradition ascribes it with great probability to the Danes. Pop. 317."

"SEWERBY, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; (Sewerby Hall, the seat of John Greame, Esq.) 1½ mile NE. of Bridlington. Population, including Marton, 317."

"SPEETON, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; 4½ miles NNW. of Bridlington, 4 SE. of Hunmanby. One chapel of Ease. Population, 116."

"WILSTHORPE, in the parish of Bridlington, and wapentake of Dickering; 2½ miles SSW. of Bridlington. Pop. 16."
