The Flamborough book of Service, 1939-1945 in St. Oswald's, Flamborough.

FLAMBOROUGH BOOK OF SERVICE

Whilst the compilers of this RECORD have made every effort to include the name of every FLAMBORIAN who has served his or her COUNTRY during the War of 1939/1945 it will be appreciated that there are many who have performed valuable services whose names cannot be included here.

Many FLAMBORIANS rendered 'Yeoman Service' in the KNITTING LEAGUES, the WOMEN'S INSTITUTE THE WOMEN'S VOLUNTARY SERVICE and as LAND GIRLS, MUNITION and AIRCRAFT WORKERS, FIRE WATCHERS and in other ways, whilst others subscribed substantially to the War Effort by caring in their own homes for EVACUEES from more vulnerable areas.

Many also devoted themselves whole-heartedly to the promotion of SOCIAL EVENTS and to CANTEEN WORK in the village for the ARMED FORCES stationed therein and to the raising of sums of money for the benefit of the BRITISH RED CROSS, the RUSSIAN RED CROSS the SPITFIRE FUND and for other objects connected with the War.

FLAMBOROUGH SCHOOL CHILDREN also took full part by responding with a will to the call for the collecting of METALS, PAPER, BONES and other materials vital to the War Effort.
