FOSTON ON THE WOLDS:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1834.
"FOSTON ON THE WOLDS, is a village and township, in the parish of its name, in the wapentake of Dickering, East Riding, about two miles north from Frodingham. It is a place of but little trade, the only establishment of consequence being that conducted by Messrs. Oxtobys' and Bainton, corn, seed, and coal merchants. The places of worship are the parish church, and a chapel each for Wesleyan methodists and calvinistic dissenters. The living of Foston is a discharged vicarage, in the gift of the crown. The parish contained, in 1831, 715 inhabitants, and the township 308 of that number.
Please see North Frodingham Parish for the 1834 trades directory for this township."
