- The committee consisted of:
- CHARLES MORGAN NORWOOD, Esq., M.P. (Chairman)
- EDWARD BIRKBECK, Esq., M.P.
- THOMAS GRAY, Esq., Assistant Secretary, Marine Department, Board of Trade
- EDWARD HENEAGE, Esq., M.P.

The Lists
- The lists is one of the Appendices to the Report (Appendix 7)
- It is described thus.
No. of Appendice | Description of Document | By whom put in | Port | No of Question | Page |
7 | Return of fishermen reported to the Hull police as drowned or dying at sea since January 1878. | Mr. J. Campbell | Hull | 776 | 175 |
Mr. Campbell was one of the witnesses and is described in the witness list as Chief Constable, Hull.
There are, however, 2 separate lists, as follows:

- (2) RETURN of FISHERBOYS DROWNED and DIED at SEA since Janaury 1878 to 19th September 1882 (see below).

Transcriber's Notes
- 1. The transcription has been made from a typed report. However, I think it is likely that the typed copy is itself a transcription of something else, maybe even a double transcription. It is possible that Mr Campbell wrote this out from a register held in Hull (or had someone else do it) and then it was typed from that.
- 2. So, like all other secondary sources, the original should be checked if at all possible. I regret I do not know if the original still exists or where it might be held.
- 3. Sadly, I have no other information about fishermen who died at sea beyond what is contained on the lists.

*The following information was supplied by Brian Callan (June 2014):
Peter Hughes was murdered by Edward Wheatfil who was later hanged for this. My great grandfather, Daniel Callan was the skipper and, amazingly was originally charged as an accessory, but the charge was dropped. I've seen the original documents at the National Archives at Kew. **The following information was supplied by Jeneila Ringwood (May 2024):
