The place:

A parish town, in the wapentake of Dickering; 9½ miles from Bridlington, from Scarborough, (by Gristhorpe and Muston 9½, and by Seamer and Flixton, 11¼) 16 from Driffield, 20 from Malton, 38 from York, 210 from London. Population 1,018. The Church is a vicarage, dedicated to All Saints, in the deanery of Dickering.
