The Registers of the Marriages in the Parish of Reighton from the year 1754 to 1803, both included, were entered and witnessed in the Register Book according to the form appointed by Act of Parliament, but being written on paper and in a state of decay, were extracted from it in the year 1803 as follows by me, Henry Eustatius Strickland, churchwarden of the Parish of Reighton.

Editor's note At this point the earliest book of Parish Registers ends and a new one begins. Baptism entries have the 'Dade' format which gives considerably more information than previously. These entries are in four columns. From left to right these give (a) the name and position of the child in the family, (b) The father's name, those of his parents, his profession and origin, (c) the mother's name, those of her parents and her father's profession and origin, (d) the date of both the child's birth (B) and Baptism (Bapt). If more than one child is born to the family the full information for later births is sometimes omitted and a note such as 'see former book' or something similar added. In these cases I have put 'see earlier entry'. To avoid confusion I have started the entry for the mother of the child with 'AND'

The Marriage entries also assume a new format. In these (X) indicates that the person made their mark. A lack of (X) indicates that they could sign their name. It is also noted whether the Marriage was by License (L) or Banns (B) and who the witnesses were.
