The place:

A parish and market town, in Hunsley-Beacon division of Harthill, a part in the liberty of St. Peter; 8 miles from Market-Weighton, 9½ from Beverley, 11½ from Howden, 12 from Hull, 27¼ from York, from London by Lincoln, 186, by York, 226. Population 885. The Church, a dissolved prebendal peculiar, is a vicarage, dedicated to All-Saints, in the deanery of Harthill.
