The place:

A parish in the wapentake of Birdforth, and in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Bishop of Durham; 7 miles from Thirsk, 9 from Northallerton, 30 from York. Population 91. The Church, a peculiar, is a rectory, dedicated to St. Michael, in the deanery of Cleveland.
