Swaledale: Swaledale Photographs .
SOME OF MY SWALEDALE PHOTOGRAPHS.
These photos of Swaledale were taken in over several years, so some are up to 18 years old.
The index consists of a table of views (below) in alphabetical order each being linked to the first image of that name. To get to the rest of the same name view images, simply use the scroll facilities on each succeeding page.
I was brought up at Grinton Lodge and lived there until I got married in 1968 (although I was in the R.A.F. at the time). Grinton Lodge was (and still is) a YHA Youth Hostel and my parents were the wardens there.
"The Turn": I learnt to swim here. Although it looks like the loops of a slow river meandering its way across flat land, in fact it is a fast flowing river and when in flood undercuts all the land in the loops as can be seen from the photographs. When I learnt to swim here, you could walk straight from where the photo was taken in photo 083 to where you can see the water in the half distance.
Many of the episodes of "All creatures great and small" were filmed in Swaledale and Arkengarthdale.
Gervaise Phinn says "My favourite dale is Swaledale" in his lectures.
The number for the photograph is given in the caption below the photograph.
