The place:

A parish in the wapentake of Hang East, a part in the Liberty of St. Peter; 5 miles from Bedale, 7 from Richmond, 39 from York. Population 102. The Church is a vicarage, dedicated to St. Mary, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Dean and Chapter of York, in the deanery of Catterick, diocese of Chester.
