ROSEDALE MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS

Contents.

Introduction

Monumental inscriptions from the Churchyard of the church of St Mary and St Lawrence, Rosedale Abbey, and other locations in Rosedale. The transcriptions were done by myself (Carol Bartlett) and Linda Caswell. Linda did all the crawling round under bushes and trees, as well as helping to read the inscriptions. A plan of the graveyard is included.

Capitalisation has been sacrificed for speed. Punctuation, where it is included, is correct; but because full stops, commas, etc. are often worn and easily missed, where none appears in the following, it should not be assumed that there was nothing on the stone originally. Layout is as it appears on the original stone. Verses have been transcribed, where readable or when time permitted; when not transcribed this is shown. Photographs of nearly all these graves are available, please see the Rosedale Grave Photographs page. All names on gravestones have been indexed. Dates given in the index are to help narrow down the search; dates are either the date of death or of burial, there being no date implies that the person is mentioned on the stone, but not commemorated.
