The place:

A Chapelry partly in the parish of Middleton, and partly in the parish of Lastingham, wapentake of Pickering Lythe; 7 miles from Kirkby Moorside, 9 from Pickering, 18 from Whitby. Population 339. The Church is a perpetual curacy, dedicated to St. Lawrence.
