The place:

A parish in the wapentake of Hang East; 4 miles from Bedale, 4½ from Northallerton, 6 from Catterick, 35 from York. Population 411. The Church is a rectory, dedicated to St. Radegund, in the deanery of Catterick, diocese of Chester.
