John Dinmore Gent, by his last will dated in 1692, left to the poor of this parish for ever, one close called the poor folks close the yearly rent of which is 64 bushels of coals to be distributed amongst the said poor every St Thomas day.

Robert Ward of the city of York Esqu. by a codicil annexed to his last will and testament, the codicil bearing date the 2nd Day of july 1769, bequeaths to the poor of Airyholm, Bagby, and Sowerby, the sum of one hundred pounds, to be disposed of and distributed amongst them at the discretion of his executrix, Lady Fagg his executrix was pleased to order the above sum to be equally divided amongst the said Townships.

BENEFACTIONS

SOWERBY
George Wright, late of the city of York, Gentn: by his last will, dated March 17th 1721, bequeathed to the poor of this parish, for ever, the yearly sum of twenty shillings to be paid at christmas issuing out of land at Tockwith with a power of distraining upon the above premises in case of non payment not only for arrears but likewise for costs of suit. Likewise left by the said George Wright for the Curate of this parish to make prayers on wednesdays and fridays two hundred pounds for ever: this money with the Queens Bounty was laid out in land in the township of Thornton-le-Beans and goes by the name of Oxmoor closes or Pilriggs.
