The place:

A parish in the wapentake of Hang West; 4 miles from Leyburn, 5 from Middleham, 12 from Richmond, 46 from York. Population 519. The Church, a peculiar, is a perpetual curacy, in the deanery of Catterick, diocese of Chester.
