The Swallownest Church began in humble fashion with cottage meetings, which were first held in 1875. A few friends, under the supervision of the Rotherham Church, built and opened a school-chapel in 1877. In 1907, the pastor of Portmahon, Sheffield, undertook the oversight of the cause, and in the following year the foundation stones of the present building were laid, and the chapel opened for worship on Sept. 3rd, 1908.
