Square Chapel, Halifax
The Square Chapel, Halifax Built in 1772 by Titus Knight & James Kershaw.
Titus Knight was the first pastor at Square Chapel. Born 1719, worked in
Shibden coal pit at 7 years old and remained a collier for 20 years.
During this time he somehow acquired a knowledge of Hebrew, Greek,
Latin and Classical History!
Founder members:
Titus Knight, William Pollard, Benjamin Robinson, Benjamin
Dickenson, Jonathan Hodgson, James Kershaw, William Thompson,
Charles Dearden, John Ackroyd and William Clay. The chapel was recently restored and is regularly used as a concert hall and community arts centre. For further information see:
