for LEEDS in Pigot's Directory of 1829.

Post Office,
  • Mill-hill, Jane Temple, Post Mistress.
  • The first Mail, taking letters for London, Wakefield, Barnsley, Sheffield, the West and South of England and South Wales, is despatched every night at five minutes past nine; and the second, taking letters for Pontefract, Wakefield, Doncaster, Bawtry, Retford, Newark, Wansford, Peterborough, St. Neots, Worksop, Biggleswade, Selby, Ferrybridge, Sheffield and Rotherham, and to all parts of Lincolnshire, is despatched every morning at nine, and arrives every evening at a quarter before five.
  • Letters for Liverpool, Manchester, Bradford, Halifax, Kendal, all parts of Lancashire, Cheshire, North Wales and Ireland are despatched every night at twelve, and arrive every morning at half-past three.
  • Letters also are despatched to Bradford, Halifax, all parts of Lancashire, the West of England and Ireland, at a quarter past ten in the morning, and arrive at three in the afternoon.
  • Letters for Glasgow, Edinburgh, Knaresborough, Appleby, Penrith, Carlisle, the county of Cumberland, and to all parts of Scotland, are despatched at a quarter past five in the evening, and arrive at eight in the morning.
  • Letters for the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, are despatched by the York Mail, which also takes the Hull and Scarborough bags, every morning at half past three, and arrive at twelve at night.
  • Letters for Padiham, Colne and Kirkby Lonsdale, are despatched by the Otley and Skipton Mail cart every afternoon at half-past five, and arrive every morning at half-past ten.
  • Letters for Durham, Newcastle, Morpeth, Belford, Berwick, Edinburgh, the Eastern parts Of Scotland, the Counties of Durham and Northumberland, also to Hull, Howden, Selby, Shields, York, and to the North-east parts of Yorkshire, are despatched by the Tadcaster Mail cart every afternoon at five minutes before three, and arrive at ten minutes before ten in the morning.
  • The box opens for the delivery of letters at seven in the morning in summer, and eight in winter, and closes at ten at night.
