proved 1st October 1573 - Thomas Marton was buried 20th June 1573. He desires that his body be buried
in the parish church of Leeds, near to my son Henry M., at the end of my pewe. To the poor man's box,
3s. 4d. To my son Christopher M., his heirs and assigns, my three cottages, with the close or croft,
and one pair of tentures, in Meadow Lane in the occupancy of Edward Richardson, William Jeffray, and
John Johnson. To my son Lancelot M. his heirs and assigns, my cottage in Meadow Lane in occupancy of
Stephen Harper, and one rode lying in two closes of Mrs. Harvey's in Knostrop Field, now in my occupancy.
To Margaret, my wife, for life, the use of my two closes called Eylmyers, and one cottage in Holbeck,
now in occupancy of William Thornton; remainder to said Lancelot M. and his assigns. To said Margaret,
my wife, for life, the use of my tenement in Leeds wherein I dwell, and the occupation of two closes
thereunto belonging; remainder to the said Christopher M., and his assigns. All the rest of my right
of lands, &c., in Holbeck after her decease to Christopher M. and his assigns. The residue to be divided
into three parts - one for the performance of this will, one to Margaret, my wife, and the other to Alice
my daughter. Twenty pounds to be honestlie arrayed to backe and bedd in all things necessarie the day
of her marriage. To Em? Marton, my daughter, 20l., and the rest as to Alice. Residue of this part
to be divided equally among my five children, Jennett Baylie, Agnes Rodlaye, Alice Marton, Lancelot
Marton, and Em Marton, except that my grandchild Margaret M. have one silver spoine, and each of my other
grandchildren, with my niece Jennet Parkinson, 3s. 4d. a piece, and a young shepe. To son Christopher
M. my gold ring, my best gelding, my best brasse potte, my best chapher, and my best candlesticks.
Margaret, my wife, sole executrix. Supervisors: my sons-in-law, Christopher Baylie and William Rodlaye,
and Christopher M. and Lancelot M. Witnesses: Alexander Fawcett, Vicar of Leeds; George Robinsone,
James Sikes, Adam Hargrave, Richard Greathead, and others.
