for SADDLEWORTH in Baines's Directory and Gazetteer Directory of 1822.

Post,
  • John Brook, Post Master, Office, Delph.
  • John Wrigley, Post Master, (and Stamp Distributor) Office, Dobcross.
  • All letters directed into Saddleworth are conveyed into the Post-Office, Manchester, whence they are conveyed through Oldham to Austerlands, where a portion of the Saddleworth letters are deposited. The remaining letters are then dispatched by the following routes:-
  • first route. Stonebreaks, Thornlee and Mosley, (at the latter place letters are deposited at the Bull's Head Inn) Wood, Quickwood, Grass-croft, Uppermill, and thence to Dobcross.
  • second route is from Austerlands through Dobcross, where letters are left at Mr. John Wrigley's, at the Post-Office, proceeds thence to Old Delph, where the letters are left, and others on return brought to Dobcross, whence the joint collection are forwarded by Austerlands to Manchester. The arrival at Dobcross is at past 10 in the morning. and the departure at 4 in the afternoon.
