THORNE:
Geographical and Historical information from the year 1750.

"THORNE, a parish in the West Riding of Yorkshire, 131 cm. 161 mm. from London, stands in the Marshland, on the r. Dun. The fens to the E. and N. E. of this T. are generally a turf-moor. The marshes here have been drained, and the ground thereby much sunk by a cut 10 m. in length, from hence to Gowle, or Gowldhall. Here is a Mt. on W."
