In 1868, the parish of Ballynure contained the following places:

"BALLYNURE, a parish in the barony of Lower Belfast, in the county of Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, 6 miles to the N.W. of Carrickfergus. It lies on the side of the Six-mile Water, and has a station on the Belfast railway. Part of the town of Ballyclare is within this parish, There is a large extent of bog and waste land, and some stone quarries. The paper manufacture is carried on, and there are large bleach grounds. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Down, Connor, and Dromore, of the value with two others, of £454, in the gift of the bishop. The Presbyterians have a chapel here. Cattle fairs are held on the 16th May, the 5th September, and the 25th October, and horse fairs in May, November, and December."

"BALLYCLARE, a market and post town chiefly in the parish of Ballynure, in the barony of Lower Belfast, and partly in the parish of Ballyeaston, in the baronies of Upper and Lower Antrim, in the county of Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, 9 miles to the E. of Antrim, and 114 miles N. from Dublin. It is a pleasant town situated on the Six Mile Water, and is a station on the Belfast and Ballymena railway. The Presbyterians and Wesleyans have chapels here. A market for linens is held once a month and fairs for the sale of horses on the 24th May, 19th July, 23rd August, and 22nd November."

"STRAID, a village in the parish of Ballynure, barony of Lower Belfast, county Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, 5 miles N.W. of Carrickfergus. Fairs are held on 4th September and 23rd October."
