    • DEATH OF A MAN AT THE AGE OF 110 YEARS
Mr. Wm. COLE, a native of Ireland, died at his residence in this city on Sunday evening last, at the extreme age of 110 years. He was born in Kilmore Parish, Co. Cavan, Ireland, on the 7th day of August 1758, and became, like his father before him, a cooper by trade. His father, who was known as the most powerful man in the parish, died at the age of 112. We can learn nothing as to his mother.
COLE himself, we are told, was never sick thoughout his long life. He was a man of good size, and rather deep chest and broad shoulders, dark hair and rather dark eyes, and a good muscular development. His eyesight was nearly perfect to the last; he could see apparently as well as he could at 50, and never used spectacles; his hearing was good, his memory good, and his appetite and sleep were as good and regular at 110 as they were at 50.
He had never been much accustomed to drink liquor of any kind. Tea and coffee he used freely. He was accustomed also to smoke a pipe during his latter years.
On Saturday last he told his wife to make preparations for his death, as he should not live over the approaching Sunday. Only a few minutes before his death he recognized his son-in-law, and also spoke to his wife. He was married three times, and his third wife survives him, being about 60 years of age. By his own wife he had five children, one by the second, and by the third, thirteen....nineteen in all, most of whom are still living.

    • Mrs. Judith TORMEY died last night at her home, 139 Norfolk Street, in her nineth-ninth year. She had resided in Newark since 1847, and had lived in the old homestead, which she built, and in which she died, since 1851. She was born in County Cavan, Ireland in 1800. Her parents were Garrett and Mary O'REILLY. Her father was 101 years of age when he died, and her mother was ninety-nine. A grandmother died at the age of ninety-nine.

Mrs. TORMEY was the mother of five children. She had always lived with her daughter, Mrs. Catharine MURPHY. Mrs. TORMEY lost her sight in 1894. In that year, her son Edward died, and as she was taking a farewell look at his face in the coffin, the funeral director found it impossible to draw her from the coffin. He then slid the cover over the coffin. From that moment the old lady was unable to see, but nobody could ever discover the cause of the blindness."
