In 1868, the parish of Clooney C contained the following places:

"CLOONEY, (or Clouney), a parish in the barony of Corcomroe, in the county of Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 1 mile to the S.E. of Ennistymon. The surface being very hilly, a large proportion is in pasture. In the valleys the soil is good, on a bottom of whinstone rock. The parish is traversed by the road from the post town Ennistymon to Corrofin and Ennispass, and by the river Forsett, with its tributaries. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Kilfenora, value with Kiltoraght, £74, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is also united to that of Kiltoraght, and there are three hedge schools within the parish.
