In 1868, the parish of Killilagh contained the following places:

"KILLILAGH, a parish in the barony of Corcomroe, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles N.W. of Ennistimon. Borrisokane is its post town. It is 5 miles long by 4 broad, and contains the villages of Roadford and Fisher-Street. The surface lies along the coast of the South Sound, opposite the Arran Isles. It is mountainous and rocky, and is indented by Doolin Bay. The road from Blackhead to Ennistimon follows the coast. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Kilfenora, value with two others, £247, in the patronage of the trustees of the late Marquis of Thomond and the bishop, alternately. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Clouney. There are two day schools. Doolin Castle stands near the bay of its name.

"DOOLIN, a postal village in the parish of Killilagh, the barony of Corcomroe and the county of Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles N.W. of Ennistimon. It is situated on the bay of its own name. The coast-line between the bay and Hugg's Head is noted for the grandeur of its cliffs. Doolin Castle is the neighbouring seat."
