In 1868, the parish of Kilnamona contained the following places:

"KILNAMONA, a parish in the barony of Inchiquin, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles W.N.W. of Ennis. It is 4 miles long by 2 broad, and consists of a good soil, with some moorland. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with Drumcliffe, £575, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a Roman Catholic chapel, and a hedge-school. Shallee and Shallequarry are the chief seats of the parish. In the vicinity are ruins of two castles, of an old church, and of ancient fortifications.
