In 1868, the parish of Kiltenanlea contained the following places:

"KILTENANLEA, a parish in the barony of Lower Tulla, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 2 miles S.W. of O'Briensbridge. Cloonlara is its post town. The parish is 5 miles long by 3 broad. The surface lies along the bank of the Shannon, which has a fall at Doonass. The interior is crossed by the Limerick and Killaloe canal and by coach road. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value with Killokennedy, £345, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected in 1782, and enlarged in 1829. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Killokennedy. There are four day schools. There are numerous seats in the vicinity.
