In 1868, the parish of Rath contained the following places:

"RATH, a parish in the barony of Inchiquin, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 5½ miles N.W. of Ennis. The parish is intersected by the road from Ennis to Ennistymon, and includes parts of the loughs Inchiquin and Tadane. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, and in the patronage of the trustees of the late Marquis of Thomond. The Roman Catholic chapel, which is situated at Liscullane, is united to that of Corofin. There are two schools. The parish church is a mere ruin. The principal residences are Adelphi, Roxton, Clifden, Willbrook, and Riverston. There is a chief police station in the village. In the vicinity are ruins of the ancient seat of the O'Neils and of Tier MacBran's Castle."
