In 1868, the parish of Tulla contained the following places:

"TULLA, a parish, post and market town in the barony of Upper Tulla, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 10 miles E. of Ennis, and 127 miles from Dublin. The surface is mountainous, rising to a height of 1,064 feet, in some places consisting of a good soil, and has a large proportion of bog. It is crossed by the road from Ennis to Killaloe. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, value £264, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1812, partly by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits. There are two Roman Catholic chapels and five private schools. The principal seats are Maryfort, Kiltanon, and Newlawn. The town contains a court-house, dispensary, police-station, and bridewell. Here are the ruins of an abbey and Druidical remains. Limestone is quarried, and veins of lead occur. Petty sessions are held every other Thursday. Market day is on Thursday. Fairs are held on 25th March, 13th May, 15th August, 30th September, and 7th December."
