In 1868, the parish of Ballymartle contained the following places:

"BALLYMARTLE, a parish in the baronies of Kinalea and Kinsale, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles from Kinsale. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross, of the value of £367, in the gift of the crown. There is a Roman Catholic chapel. A police force is stationed here, and petty sessions are held once a fortnight. There are several gentlemen's seats."
