The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Corkbeg contained the following places:

"CORKBEG, a parish in the barony of Imokilly, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland. The parish lies along, the right shore of Cork Harbour; the soil is good, with a very excellent description of limestone beneath it. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cloyne, Val. £317, in the patronage of the crown. Whitegate and Midleton are the post towns. There is no church, but public worship is held in a private building. At the mouth of the harbour is Carlisle Fort, and at Roche Point is the Roche tower light, which throws a red light about 4 miles to sea. There is also an old fort in ruins, built in the time of Elizabeth. Corkbeg House and Trabolgan are the principal residences."

"GYLEEN, a village in the parish of Corkbeg, barony of Imokilly, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 14 miles S.E. of Cork. It is situated near Power Head."
