The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Knocktemple contained the following places:

"KNOCKTEMPLE, a parish in the barony of Duhallow, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles N. of Kanturk. Charleville is its post town. It is 2 miles long by 1½ mile broad, and contains the village of Freemount. The road from Newmarket to Charleville crosses the parish, which is also intersected by the river Allua. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cloyne, value with another, £193, in the patronage of the bishop. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and two day schools. Castle Ishen is the demesne of Sir J. Fitzgerald, Bart."

"FREEMOUNT, a village in the parish of Knocktemple, barony of Duhallow, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles N. of Kanturk. Here is a police station, and a dispensary within the Kanturk Poorlaw Union. The Roman Catholic parish of Freemount is in the diocese of Cloyne and Ross."
