The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Leighmoney contained the following places:

"LEIGHMONEY, (or Liffaney), a parish in the barony of Kinalea, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles N.W. of Kinsale, its post town. It is 2 miles long by 1 broad. The surface lies along the E. side of the river Bandon. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Cork, value £82, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a parish school. Shippool is the principal residence, retaining the name of the adjacent old castle, which was built by the Roche family.
