The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Monanimy contained the following places:

"MONANIMY, a parish in the barony of Fermoy, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles E.N.E. of Mallow, its post town. The parish is 4 miles long by 3 broad. The surface extends along the bank of the river Blackwater, and includes the village of Killawillin. It is mountainous, lying in the vicinity of the Nagle mountains, and includes only a small proportion of good land. The road from Mallow to Castletownroche traverses the interior. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Cloyne, value £300, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was a gift from, the late Board of First Fruits in 1811. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Clonore. There are four day schools. Carrigacunda is the principal seat. On the site now occupied by the parish church stood a preceptory of Knights Templars, who also had a castle here, the remains of which are now turned into a farmhouse."

"KILLAWILLIN, (or Killavullane), a post-office village in the parish of Monanimy, in the barony of Fermoy, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Mallow. It is situated on the left bank of the river Blackwater, and on the road from Mallow to Fermoy. Immediately over it rise the Nagle mountains. The pass of Killawillin, the ruins of Monanimy, supposed to have belonged to the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, and several natural caverns, are objects of interest.
