The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Myross contained the following places:

"MYROSS, a parish in the barony of West Carbery, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles S.W. of Roscarboy, its post town. It is 2 miles in length and the same in breadth, and contains the villages of Unionhall and Carrigillihy. The surface is hilly, but consists of a good soil, extending between Glandore Harbour and Castlehaven. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ross, value £375, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1827. The chief seats are Myross Wood and Rock Cottage, where Dean Swift lived. There are ruins of an abbey called "De Fonte Vivo," founded in 1172 by the MacCarthys, near which is the old church. A fair is held on Holy Thursday."

"CARRIGILLIHY, a hamlet in the barony of West Carbery, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 8 miles E. of Skibbereen. It is seated on the sea-coast."

"UNIONHALL, a post-office village in the parish of Myross, barony of East Carbery, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles E. of Skibbereen. It is situated on the W. shore of Glandore Harbour, and has a landing-stage. There are a police station, at which petty sessions are held fortnightly, a dispensary, and two or three schools. Corn is exported. The parish church is in the vicinity."
