The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Rathcooney contained the following places:

"RATHCOONEY, a parish in the N. liberties of the county of the city of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles N.E. from Cork. Glanmire is its post town. It is partly bounded by the streams Glanmire and Lee. The road from Cork to Dublin traverses the interior. In the village is a dispensary. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, value £760, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, which is situated at Glanmire, was erected in 1784 by means of private subscriptions. The parish is joined to Upper Glanmire in the Roman Catholic arrangement. There are three schools, one of which is supported by private charity. Ruins of the old church are seen, and several raths."

"GLANMIRE, a village in the parish of Rathcooney, barony of Cork, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland. It stands on the road from Cork to Waterford, and on the river Glanmire, which has a drawbridge. Here is a dispensary, which is in the Cork Poor-law Union. This village was the scene of a riot in 1716 by the Cork garrison."

"SALLYBROOK, a village in the barony of Imokilly, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles N.E. of Cork, on Cork harbour."
