The surface is hilly, with some extent of bog and waste, but the soil is good. Boggestown, Rochestown, Hacketstown, and Kilbrittain are within the limits of this parish. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, value £380. The church, which stands on an eminence, was built in 1821, by means of gifts from the late Board of First Fruits. There are two Roman Catholic chapels, and two schools. The chief residences are Garretstown, Kilmore, and Knockanroe. There is a chalybeate sulphur spring. The ruins of Crohane Church, and a large fort with a treble rampart, are visible."
