The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Desertegny contained the following places:

"DESERTEGNY, a parish in the barony of Innishowen, in the county of Donegal, province of Ulster, Ireland, 2 miles from Buncrana, its post town. The parish extends along the eastern shores of Lough Swilly, and is bounded on the N. by the Atlantic Ocean. It is mountainous, with a poor soil. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Derry, value £185, in the patronage of the Marquis of Donegal. The church is a well-built edifice, erected in the last century. The Roman Catholic chapel occupies the site of the old church, and is united to the chapels of Upper and Lower Fahan. There are Sunday and day schools. The surrounding hills are rich in metallic ores.

"DUNRIE, a village in the parish of Desertegny, barony of Innishowen, in the county of Donegal, Ireland, 6 miles N.W. of Buncrana. It is a coastguard station, with a fort."
