In 1868, the parish of Ardkeen contained the following places:

"ARDKEEN, a parish in the barony of Ards, in the county of Down, province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles to the N. of Portaferry. It is situated on the narrow peninsula between Lough Strangford on the W. and the Irish Channel on the E. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Down, Connor, and Dromore, value £261, in the patronage of the prebendary of St. Andrew's. The church contains monuments of the Savages, to whom the manor at one time belonged. A large part of the surface is mountain and bog. This parish was the site of a fortress, belonging to the De Courcys, which was besieged by Shane O'Neil, in 1567."
