In 1868, the parish of Blanchvilleskill contained the following places:

"BLANCHVILLESKILL, a parish in the barony of Gowran, in the county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles to the E. of Kilkenny. The soil is fertile, and the district contains some limestone. The living is a vicarage united with the rectory of Kilfane, in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin. The principal residence is Blanchvilleskill House, the seat of General Kearney.

"CLIFDEN, a village in the parish of Blanchvilleskill, in the barony of Gowran, in the county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland. The Ellises, of Gowran, take the title of viscount from this place."
