The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Glashare contained the following places:

"GLASHARE, a parish in the barony of Galmoy and Clarmallagh, counties Kilkenny and Queen's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of Johnstown. Rathdowney is its post town. The surface consists of a poorish soil, watered by a small stream falling into the Nore. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ossory, value with Rathdowney, £763, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a private day school. In the Roman Catholic arrangement the parish is included in the Eirke district."
