The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ardpatrick contained the following places:

"ARDPATRICK, a parish, now part of the parish of Kilquane, in the barony of Coshlea, county of Limerick and province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S.E. of Kilmallock. It is situated on the western side of the Ballyhowra hills. An abbey existed here in very early times, which is said to have been founded by St. Patrick. Rains of it still stand on the top of Ardpatrick Hill, and near them a portion of a round tower. Small quantities of gold ore have been found here, and the fossil remains of an elk. The living is united with the curacy of Kilquane, which is joined to the rectory of St. Patrick Limerick. Sunville, an old seat, was the residence of the Godsalls. Fairs are held here on the 17th March, the 26th April, the 12th September, and the 12th November."
