The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilcullane contained the following places:

"KILCULLANE, a parish in the barony of Smallcounty, county Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of Crumper. It contains Herbertstown, its post town. It is 1 mile long by half a mile broad. The surface consists of good land, and is watered by the river Commogue. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Emly, united with Cahercorney. Kilcullane House is the seat of Viscount Guillamore. Hurley Castle is in the neighbourhood. This parish came to the Bourchier family from the Desmonds.

"HERBERTSTOWN, a village in the parishes of Ballinard and Kilcullane, in the barony of Small County, county Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Bruff. It stands on the road between Limerick and Hospital, and contains a police station. Fairs are held on the 15th January, 17th March, 28th June, 26th August, and 7th November."
