The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmoylan contained the following places:

"KILMOYLAN, a parish in the barony of Shanid, county Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, near Shanagolden. Glin is its post town. It includes the village of Ballyhahill. The surface extends along the bank of the Shannon estuary, and is somewhat mountainous. It is drained by the little stream Oran. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Limerick, value with Kilfergus, £171, in the patronage of the Vicars-choral of Limerick Cathedral. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Shanagolden and Robertstown. There is a day school. Shanid Castle belonged to the Desmonds."
