In 1868, the parish of Kilquane contained the following places:

"KILQUANE, a parish partly in the barony of Fermoy, county Cork, and partly in the barony of Coshlea, county Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles S.W. of Kilfinnane. Mallow is its post town. The surface is mountainous, Seefin being the principal summit, which has an altitude of 1,706 feet. The living is appropriated to the see of Limerick. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Effin and Kilbreedy Major. There is a hedge-school."
