The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Castletown contained the following places:

"CASTLETOWN, a parish in the baronies of Upper and Lower Dundalk, in the county of Louth, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles to the N.W. of Dundalk. It is situated on the coast of Dundalk Bay, near the Dundalk, Enniskillin, and Londonderry railway, and is crossed by a small stream which falls into the bay. This place takes its name from the ancient castle, said to be that of Fingal, which stood here, and of which there are still considerable remains. The castle subsequently belonged to the Bellews and the Boynes. The parish contains some stone quarries. The living is a rectory united with the vicarage of Dundalk, in the diocese of Armagh and Clogher. The chief residence is Castletown House. In the vicinity are remains of ancient forts and primitive stone circles."
