The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Charlestown contained the following places:

"CHARLESTOWN, a parish in the barony of Ardee, in the county of Louth, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2 miles N.W. of Ardee. The locality is boggy, and stone is obtained for building purposes. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Armagh and, Clogher, value with Tallanstown, Mapastown, Philipstown, and Clonkeehan, £349, in the patronage off the bishop. Several seats adorn the neighbourhood."
