The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Richardstown contained the following places:

"RICHARDSTOWN, a parish in the barony of Ardee, county Louth, province of Leinster, Ireland, 2½ miles E. of Ardee, its post town. The surface extends along the S. bank of the river Dee, and is traversed by the road from Ardee to Annagasson. The soil is mostly good. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Armagh, value with Stabannon, £162, in the patronage of the Vicars-Choral of St. Patrick's Deanery. In the Roman Catholic arrangement this place is united to Dunleer. Richardstown Castle, still used as a residence, is a place of considerable antiquity. Near the village are ruins of a chapel and a holy well."
